# The LinkedIn Algorithm Explained: Why Your Posts Aren't Getting Seen You've written what you think is a solid post. You hit publish. And then... crickets. You're not alone. Thousands of professionals pour energy into LinkedIn every day only to get 15 likes and zero real engagement. The frustration is real — but the problem isn't you. It's that you're writing for the LinkedIn algorithm that *used to exist*. ## What Changed in 2024 LinkedIn's algorithm shifted away from vanity metrics (likes and shares) toward a new priority: **genuine connection and conversation**. The platform now rewards posts that generate meaningful comments — not just clicks. This means: - A post with 100 genuine comments beats a post with 1,000 likes - Long-form, discussion-starting posts outrank polished, broadcast-style content - Your network's *engagement* on your post matters more than the size of your network ## The Three Things LinkedIn Cares About Now ### 1. Dwell Time How long does someone spend looking at your post? LinkedIn's algorithm treats longer dwell time as a signal that your content is valuable. This is why thoughtful, longer-form posts now win — they keep people on the platform longer. ### 2. Comment Velocity How quickly do comments roll in after you publish? If your post gets comments in the first hour, LinkedIn notices and pushes it to more feeds. This is why posting time matters — post when your network is most active. ### 3. Click-Through Intent Does your post make people want to click your link or visit your profile? LinkedIn can see if people are clicking, and it rewards posts with high intent. This means every post should have a clear reason for someone to engage with you or your content. ## How to Actually Win on LinkedIn Now **Start with a hook.** The first line of your post should make someone stop scrolling. Not clickbait — genuine curiosity or relevance. **Ask a real question.** End your post with a question that invites a thoughtful response. "What's your take?" works better than "Drop a comment below." **Write longer.** Posts between 150-300 words now consistently outperform short posts. You have room to share actual insight, not just a headline. **Be conversational.** LinkedIn's algorithm rewards posts that sound like a friend sharing wisdom, not a corporate memo. Use contractions. Be human. **Engage genuinely.** Spend 15 minutes each day commenting on posts from people in your network. Thoughtful comments. Actual responses. LinkedIn's algorithm notices who's building community, not just broadcasting. ## The Real Win Here's what most people miss: **the algorithm is just a tool to get your content in front of the right people. The real win is what happens after.** If you're writing posts hoping to build your personal brand, establish authority, or convert your network into clients — the algorithm only matters insofar as it gets your message to people who care. So before you optimize for the algorithm, ask yourself: *Is what I'm posting actually valuable to my network?* Does it teach them something? Does it make them think? Does it build trust? Answer those questions first. The algorithm will follow. --- **Want a complete system for LinkedIn growth?** Check out our LinkedIn Authority Accelerator course — it covers everything from profile optimization to converting followers into real business opportunities.
